The Best MBA Program in the World - UNR’s MBA

Today, I was attending my last summer class in the UNR’s MBA program. During the last presentation of the class, I was lost in my own thoughts. I was thinking about - how much I learned from UNR’s MBA program. But before I talk about my amazing learning experience at UNR, I would like to ask you few questions. What exactly do you look for in an MBA program? Top notch education? Rate of return on your investment? Experienced classmates? Over all experience? Whatever may be the case, UNR will exceed all of your expectations.

The niche of this program is - its innovative courses, which helps them in creating the “Leaders of Tomorrow”. Courses like Entrepreneurship in today’s world, social media, personal branding, etc. are one of the best courses that I would recommend. For example: Dr. Bret teaches the course on Personal Branding. UNR is one of the fewest schools, offering this type of the course. In this course, we learn how to market ourselves. Especially in today’s world, it is becoming really important to have your Personal Brand, if you want to end up with good career options after graduation. No matter how much talented you are, if you can not put yourself out there, your knowledge will not be useful for your professional growth.

Overall, this program is outstanding. It is very challenging but extremely rewarding at the same time. Balancing school, work, and family has been one of the most difficult things for me to do in my life. But the rewards have been tremendous, the knowledge that I have gained here at University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is priceless. Especially, the instructors were great business professionals, well-respected in their fields. I really enjoyed the fact that some of the professors were adjuncts and could bring in real-life experiences and their connections and networks to the school. It was incredibly interesting. Having access to such varied faculty members, who were always available by phone, e-mail, or in person - was a great help.

UNR's MBA is a phenomenal program and an investment. I'm tremendously glad that I made the decision to attend and recommend it highly to everyone who has considered it. I am a strong ambassador for the program because of its flexibility for working adults, strong core classwork, quality peers and diverse population. After all, Business Week and Princeton Review must have done some good research before naming this AACSB Accredited school, UNR’s College of Business, as one of the best Business School in the world.

  2. You've got to be kidding ... with the cuts and mismanagement on the part of UNR's leadership, we alumni of the UNR Business School will be lucky not to have our degrees de-value our resumes in the very near future.

Rather then crowing about how good the school is, why don't you admit that the UNR leadership is ripping the guts out of the Business School and try and get alumni to do something about it?

    Truth hurts huh?

I once was proud that I had an MBA from UNR, now I'm saddened and embarrassed by what the University's become.

I also know that I, for one, will think twice about hiring new graduates from what an MBA program that is clearly both second-rate and a shadow of its former self ...

    Sincerely,

    Stephen

  3. Dear Stephen,

I agree that recently there have been many changes in the Management of the UNR MBA's program. I will also agree that there were many funding cuts during these past years, due to the bad economic conditions. But I don't agree with your comments on "mismanagement".

Being an Alumni of UNR's MBA program, you might have seen more than me. After all, I am only half way through my program. But whatever may be the case, my experience at UNR is remarkable till now. Professors are very knowledgeable, peers are talented and for the tuition that I am paying; I think that UNR's MBA program is delivering more than I expected.

All in all, I am having great time at UNR's MBA program right now.

    Thanks.

  4. So let me get this straight ... you, with all your business and educational experience feel you can brag about just how good the school you're going to is (as if you had any experience with other MBA programs, or any clue what companies look at when hiring MBAs) ... and disagree with my comments about it being mismanaged (comments that are also being made by over half the Nevada State Senate, the entire Nevada Congressional Delegation, at least five former members of the University's Board of Regents and many of the business leaders in Nevada ...).

Kid, you need to pull your head out of wherever it is and realize that the University of Nevada's management is harming your future and that of all of your fellow students at the College of Business Administration.

The school has a Dean that is neither a businessman nor a Nevadan. Heck, he doesn't even live in the State. He's spending a ton of money redoing his office while "firing" some of the top faculty at the school, all of whom are (or rather were) tenured.

He and the UNR leadership are turning what was a first-rate and in some fields nationally-recognized MBA program into a glorified community college ... while the talent that the University has spent years cultivating is being quickly recruited by major univerities (such as Rutgers for example ...).

My advice to you is to take a hard look at what your MBA from UNR will be worth, and unless your career goal is to be a junior manager in some Reno-based company, you may want to consider transferring to another school. Now, if your goal is to be a career junior manager at some Reno-based company, then my advice is to drop out of the UNR MBA program and save the tuition money ...

I'm glad you're having a great time at UNR's MBA program ... after all a "Great Time" is what graduate school is all about .... right ... GET SERIOUS!

The actions of the current leadership of the University are at best negligent, and your naiveté in posting ridiculous articles about how great the school is are just making things worse. Do the due diligence. I think that if you're even somewhat intelligent and really do look at what's going on you'll realize that not only are they making bad business decisions ... but that in naively supporting them so are you! It's your future that's in jeopardy ...
